ASUS RT-N15U
UniFi Beta Firmware Test (based on beta FW 11.28.1.1.32)
Device connected to UniFi on 24Feb'12
(Note: Of lately, I have been getting this 210x IP quite frequently, this IP range, from my test & feel, seem to be slower than the previous 175x range.)
Total about 12 equipments connected to the device

WiFi Test (@20Mhz width mixed mod)
So far for wireless testing, I always test on a single machine to determine the actual throughput rate.
This time, I've decided to stress test this Broadcom BCM47xxx with hidden antenna by connecting 2 laptops concurrently to see how it perform ....
The following test was based on my home network setup, with the following scenario:
- The router wireless was set to 20Mhz width, mixed mode with WPA/WPA2 auto, Short preamble with no b/g Protection
- 2 PCs (PC1 2) and the router, all with gigabit LANport, were connected to a gigabit switch
- 2 laptops with the following spec, wirelessly connected to the router concurrently, with a clear distance of about 10ft :
- ACER TravelMate8371G : Win7-Enterprise-64Bit, Core2 Duo SU7300, 8G RAM, Intel 5100 AGN Dual-band wireless adapter
- ASUS F80L : Win7-Pro-32Bit, Core2 Duo T5850, 3G RAM, Atheros AR928X wireless adapter
- ACER TravelMate8371G : Win7-Enterprise-64Bit, Core2 Duo SU7300, 8G RAM, Intel 5100 AGN Dual-band wireless adapter
- 2 wireless stress tests as follows (ACER from/to PC1, ASUS from/to PC2)
- Test 1 : copy huge files from network PCs to laptops concurrently
- Test 2 : copy huge files from laptops to network PCs concurrently
- .
Test 1 : Copy huge files from network PCs to laptops concurrently
At initial stage, the Acer (with Intel 5100 AGN) seem to download faster than the ASUS (with Atheros AR928X)
After a while, both almost equal rate ....
Almost half way through, the ASUS seem to overtake Acer .....
The ASUS continue to lead all the way until finished .....
Test 1 stress test completed, both huge files were copied to laptops without any problem.
Test 2 : Copy huge files from laptops to network PCs concurrently
At initial stage, the Acer (with Intel 5100 AGN) seem to upload much faster than the ASUS (with Atheros AR928X)
The ASUS tried to catch up, but Acer still lead all the way with quite a big margin ....
Half way through, the Acer still lead all the way until finished, but the upload rate seem to drop ....
WiFi Test (@40Mhz)
After the above concurrent test, later I set the device to 40Mhz with max 300Mbps transfer speed, I can get about ~12MB/s download rate on my Acer Intel 5100 AGN
Conclusion:
Based on the above wireless tests, if setup commonly with maximum compatibility (@20Mhz), for download speed the ASUS laptop (Atheros adapter) seem to be stronger. For upload speed, the Acer laptop (Intel adapter) seem to be stronger.
But if setup the device at 40Mhz width with maximum transfer speed, this Broadcom chip can really fly !
Taken into consideration it's enclosed antenna, I must admit this is one of the highest I've ever tested !!
So, if you do not have any devices (eg, iPhone, i-something, mobile phones, etc) which require to connect at 20Mhz, this beast can really run wild if you setup @40Mhz with max speed !
Torrent Test
For torrent test, I use one of my old laptop installed with LinuxMint LXDE11 with qBittorrent client, set both down/up load limit to 450KB/s, started the following torrents download for 3 days ....
No problem after almost 3 days of torrenting !
Overall more than 20GB download and 40GB upload
Tested the device for more than 3 days without any issue, same IP with no disconnection/reconnection
This beta firmware is good to go UniFi !
